Scroll through house listings for long enough and you'll meet this room over and over: gray vinyl plank flooring, greige walls, one gray shiplap accent wall, a gray sectional, a black-and-white abstract print, and a fake fiddle-leaf fig. The internet calls it the flip, or millennial gray, and makes a lot of jokes about it.
It exists for sensible reasons. Gray finishes are cheap, hard-wearing, easy to match, and photograph cleanly for a listing. They're chosen not to offend any buyer, and that's why nobody loves them.
