What is a virtual walkthrough?

A virtual walkthrough is a digital interior you can move through as if you were in the room — at minimum, look around; in the stronger sense, walk. Marketers use it for everything from a 360° panorama viewer to a Matterport dollhouse to a game-like WASD scene. The honest question is always: can I change my position, or only my heading?

Look-around versus walk

• Look-around — you are on a tripod. Drag to turn. Useful, cheap to understand, easy to share.
• Walk — you can move to the window, then look back at the sofa wall. This is what people mean when they say they want to "feel the space."
• Connected whole-home — walk from the foyer into the kitchen as one model. That is the Matterport-class job, and it needs capture of multiple rooms.

Roomersive ships the first two for one room from one photo (look-around, plus a walkable splat). It does not ship the third. Saying "walkthrough" without that limit is how photo-based tools get compared as failed scanners.

Example

A relocating buyer in another state opens a listing. A staged still of the living room is one composed view. A look-around lets them find the window wall the still cropped out. A WASD walk lets them stand where a dining table might go. None of those is walking into the hallway, which would require a connected capture the listing may not have paid for.
