What is a 360° virtual tour?
A 360° virtual tour lets you look around a room from inside it — as a panorama, a walkable 3D scene, or both — instead of inferring the space from flat listing photos.
A 360° virtual tour is an interactive view of a real (or restyled) space that you control: drag to look around, and in some products walk through the room, rather than clicking through a gallery of stills. The point is presence. A photo tells you what the photographer framed. A tour lets you check the corner they did not.
Two common implementations
Panorama (look-around). An equirectangular 360° image mapped onto a sphere. You stand at one point and rotate. This is what a lot of "360 tour" plugins on listing sites actually are. Fast to load, honest about the camera position, no walking.
Walkable 3D. A reconstructed scene — historically a mesh from photogrammetry or a Matterport scan; in Roomersive, a Gaussian splat generated from the restyled photo — that you move through with WASD or arrow keys. You can change where you stand, not only where you look.
Roomersive ships both from the same generation: a panorama for the quick look-around, and a splat world for walking the room. Switching between them is a toggle, not a second vendor. You cannot yet walk from one room into another; each tour is one room from one photo.
Tours of the home as-is vs. tours of a restyle
A Matterport-style scan documents the property in its current condition. That is the right tour when the interior is already the one you want to sell.
A tour generated from a restyled photo answers a different question: what would it feel like to stand in this room after the empty living room is furnished, or after the dated kitchen is pulled toward a new style. Example
A buyer opens a listing, skips the kitchen still, and opens a 360° tour of the restyled kitchen. They look from the sink to the window, then walk toward the island. They are judging clearance and light, not the photographer's best angle. That is the job a virtual tour has that a gallery does not.
