Polycam — company profile

Polycam is a phone 3D scanner: LiDAR, photogrammetry, meshes and splats of the space as it is — next to a photo-based restyle tour.

Polycam is a capture company. The app walks a space — LiDAR on supported iPhones, photogrammetry more broadly — and produces a 3D artifact of current conditions: mesh, Gaussian splat, measurements, exports. Architects, contractors, and curious homeowners use it because a phone is not a $3,000 Matterport camera. It is still a scan. Someone has to walk the room.

How to comparePolycam vs Roomersive, Polycam alternative

What they actually sell

Documentation. The furniture you have is the furniture in the model. The empty listing is an empty model. That honesty is the feature when you need measurements or an as-built. It is the bug when you needed the listing to look lived-in by Friday.

Gaussian splatting shows up in Polycam's later capture story and in Roomersive's walkable output. Same family of 3D representation (Gaussian splatting); opposite inputs. Capture versus proposal. See also photogrammetry.

Where Roomersive sits next to it

Roomersive does not walk the property. It restyles a still and generates a look-around / walk of that restyle. Searching "Polycam alternative" when you wanted a tour without scanning is a category error the alternative page exists to catch. Searching it when you wanted a different scanner is a different shopping list (Scaniverse and cousins), which Roomersive should not interrupt.

A team can own both: Polycam for as-built, Roomersive for as-proposed. The profile's job is to keep those jobs from collapsing into "3D app."
